Stylists You Need To Know

I love a woman that men could follow in the street. Or they come in a restaurant and say, “Look at that girl.” This is what I like.” - Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele

For every starlet, whether it be an actress bursting onto the silver screen like a comet or female entertainer already poised to be some legend’s heir apparent; there is a village of creative genius ushering in their heavily curated image. Here are my top choices for the stylists and creative directors you may not know about- but wish you did.

Brett Allen nelson- Doja Cat, Bebe Rexha, Lizzo

Brett has shown himself to be a tour de force in the range of camp meets fantasy. With a background in theater, it permeates through in his elaborate costumes and custom pieces commissioned for his clients. Under the wing of famed provocateur, photographer David LaChapelle , Brett has positioned himself as the fashion guru of tomorrow’s divas.

Lizzo wearing: custom Balmain, custom Dolce & Gabbana, and Moschino F/W 2014

Bryon Javar- City Girls, Saweetie

Byron is a name you may not know but when it comes to encapsulating the ghetto fabulous allure of the female rapper, he got that on lock. Turning out looks where Leigh Bowery and Lil Kim intersect, the women he dresses know how to turn heads and clicks.

Labels n’ dOLLAS- latto, Iggy AzALEA

Todd White hailing from Ohio is one of my personal faves as of right now. Todd took the unconventional route and by landing himself at the right places with the right ideas. With a head on approach he was able to build a roster and clientele lined with some of biggest acts in hip-hop and R&B: Mulatto, Coi Leroy, Summer Walker and Megan Thee Stallion. Helming a voyeuristic background in costume design, Mr. Dollas has a niche for the flair needed for a woman in the spotlight.

Jahleel Weaver- Rihanna

Jahleel most popularly known as ‘Jah’, has become a mastermind in the shadows of the shine that is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Coming up under Rihanna’s former stylist, Mel Ottenberg, Jah was promoted to the ranks of her right hand fashion genie after Mel’s departure from Team Fenty. Being both a stylist and collaborator alongside Rihanna, he has lended his hands in her apparel ventures and marketing campaigns for lingerie giant, Savage X Fenty, and Rihanna’s short lived maison 'Fenty’.

Andrew Mukamal- Zoe Kravitz, Kaia GeRBER, LILY ROSE DEPP

Andrew is low-key the architect of “It Girl Chic”, an aesthetic strongly pushed by everyone’s favorite repo girls, Zoe Kravitz and Kaia Gerber. Andrew fell into the industry basically by chance after being invited to a Vogue Russia shoot at Milk Studios while studying history at the University of Virginia. Andrew intersects the high intensity of luxury fashion with a relaxed edge, young but still inherently nodding to the poise of the past.
